History

     It was 1995. Steve Young and the San Francisco 49ers won the Super Bowl. Microsoft released Windows 95 to the public. Coolio was singing to us about his "Gangsta's Paradise", and the Wackadoo's Grub & Brew concept was being created and established. The idea of a student-centered campus hangout surrounded by school memorabilia and portrayals of student life, first came to life at the University of Central Florida, home of the Golden Knights. Since its inception, it has appealed to everyone with a fun & inviting atmosphere that screams out to students, alumni, and faculty - "Hey you.You belong here!"

      Throughout their college years Wackadoo's concept founders felt that something was missing from college food service. They were supposed to be adults: building their futures, widening their horizons - and still eating food plopped onto plastic trays spoonful after spoonful from a "lunch lady" who resembled the same person serving the same food from high school, in what could be - the same hairnet. The culmination of the concept was a gradual process, steadily revised and perfected until every aspect had been hit in detail and was ready to unveil at their alma mater. If you ask them though, one night in particular stands out, as the point in time when they realized someone needed to spruce up college food service and actually involve the customer, the college student, in the process. Trying to plan a fraternity function, both of our founders were shocked when they learned how far their hard-earned fundraising money would actually stretch. One hundred bucks. One would think that would be enough to feed a small army of hungry boys who had no concern for their taste buds, only that their stomachs were full - right? Fruit punch. You hand over 100 bucks of money, in which you might have washed 35 cars at a campus fundraiser, to get Fruit Punch for 25 people? Thanks, I guess.

      Flash to today. Wackadoo's Grub & Brew has grown to become known as "the place to be" on every college campus we serve and "the place to get" for every college campus we do not currently serve. We offer a great place for clubs and organizations to meet, watch the big game, or just grab a quick bite to eat and catch up after class. We offer a variety of customized menu items that appeal to every type of student - not to mention, we maintain an inviting atmosphere to our alumni and campus staff. What's more, guess who is involved now? The students. Students serving students. Students preparing food for other students. Students giving input, making decisions, and offering their advice for the future of their food service. We always offer fresh food, cooked-to-order. We keep our menu current - trends change, appetites vary - so we continue giving Universities "Quality food at College prices"™. Our unprecedented enthusiasm for school spirit never changes. We continue on our mission to bring every college student a one-of-a-kind place to call their own - one that reflects their campus past, the University's triumphant accolades, one where they - the everyday student - fit in; one where 100 bucks gets you more than Fruit Punch.
